Burning vehicles...

Some photos of the burning tank markers in action.  A German column of half-tracks and trucks comes under ATG fire.  The markers show how the flow of a battle can be tracked by the wrecks left behind...

The column winds between wintry hills

A couple of vehicles take hits

More shots come in - their comrades make a run for it

The burning vehicles get left behind

As their mates scarper, the burning vehicles are left where they got hit..

Close up of the unlucky units as the lucky ones head for safety

The only issue we can see with these is one of getting in the way (e.g. should a vehicle or infantry stand cross the path of one of these).  Simply put, the burning vehicle is moved to accommodate the 'live' stand and moved back if possible once the 'live' stand has moved on.  Other than that, as you can see, they do help to illustrate the ebb and flow of battle - especially when vehicles of both combatants are included...

There are about 30 markers made up which should be more than sufficient for an operational game.

Destroyed vehicle markers for Spearhead

Unsuspecting Stug in winter colours
Mark asked me to knock up some markers to show knocked out tanks for our Spearhead WW2 battles.  Leaning heavily on Big Lee's original idea I have created a simple item that sits on top of tanks of any size.  Bent wire, stuffing material and black spray paint and voila!

The wire is bent in a U around the front (or back) of the vehicle. Then twisted up and over the top of the tank.  The polyester material (I suspect it is polyester) is then glued to the wire and twisted to give the plume effect (wider at the top than the bottom).

Each time a vehicle is knocked out on the battlefield, a marker is placed over the top to show the progress of battle and who lost what where (the tanks are therefore left in place rather than removed).

The same markers can be used on trucks, AFV's etc. as well as knocked out guns and bunkers (maybe smaller ones for the guns...)

Remagen Update - BOOM!

Phil has made some excellent explosion markers for the bridge.  They don't fit within the span but as can be seen above, they look superb either side.

And because Phil anticipated that they wouldn't fit he has made some extra effects to fit within the span - I'm impressed!  Phil will you make me some extra markers to use in WW1 and WW2 spearhead which would then be used in the operational games for off table artillery?

Russ and Phil have been swapping emails regarding the display board - can't wait to see how that looks.

Check out the Baccus website where Phil has written up our game from last Thursday and posted Russ' pictures - I'd want to play that game!

Only thing that isn't in place is the sound effects and theme tune - but Mark says he has a plan - should I be worried?

Splash markers ordered!

I just ordered 3 packs of these so they should help "enhance" the game further.

They were not cheap though and you only get 5 markers for £4.50 (ouch)

I have 15 which will cover some firing during gunnery.

Feel free to buy some!!

World War 1 Coloured Markers

Before anyone orders anything I think I have the cheapest solution for our required coloured markers for WW1 guns.

I picked these up last Year at the show we attended in Wolverhampton

they are a handy 15mm diameter and made from MDF. I simply airbrushed these with red and orange.

They are currently available from www.minibits.co.uk for £1 for 30 so I will order some once I have some feedback on how many we really need.

I can easy spray them using my air brush with the designated colours which we require for the guns.

Let me know what you think and how many packs I need to order.
